There are a lot of activities that you can do with your friends in Cambodia other than visiting temples.  Here are some of the unforgettable activities to plan in Cambodia:

Get a great view of bats at the Battambang Bat Cave

These bats are known to fly in a flurry and will create a warm mist as they spiral higher above. This doesn’t have to worry you, as the bats will instead look for food! You can also capture pictures of them while they are breaking off. The cloud of bats will disappear from the cave in 45 minutes.

If you’re scratching your head as to why you should visit the Battambang Bat Cave, a trip to the Killing Caves just around the corner may be of interest. These are two dark tourism destinations that cater to historical-minded travellers and provide some insight into Cambodian history.

Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center

In this rescue centre, you can feed animals. And spend some quality time. The entrance fee is US$5 for adults and US$2 for children, which can be booked in advance.

Similar to Hua Hin and Bangkok, Sihanoukville is an experience of a lifetime for those who have some expendable income.

While you will be taken by van from the centre to and from, you will be walking for most of the experience. There are no air-conditioned facilities at Cuzco, so be prepared to sweat it out during their months when it is hottest.

Bokor National Park

In the park, you can learn about the history of this country even outside of its six famous ancient temples. You can begin your search for activities by making a journey to the charming town of Kampot in the Cambodian province of Kampot. The national park is called Preah Monivong National Park, and it will take you back to Cambodia’s colonial period.

Bokor National Park is one of two national parks in Cambodia and is also considered an ASEAN National Park! You can find grasslands, forests and a variety of animals, including elephants, leopards, black bears, and hundreds of bird species here.

If you love exploring and taking in nature, this park is perfect because it allows visitors to walk for two to eight hours depending on which route they pick! Take a picture once you get there because each path will lead you to an incredible view of green fields along with insights into the wildlife that lives there.

Bokor Hill Station: The big attraction of the mountain range is Bokor Hill Station, built in the 1920s by the French when they were occupying Cambodia. It has a French flair with European colonial buildings and a villa for each family. Visitors come to this village for its cool temperatures compared to the sweltering heat in Phnom Penh as well as its scenery.

Popokvil Waterfall

Taking a walk in the park, relaxing and having a picnic in this cascade is perfect. In the water below, tourists cannot swim, but they can soak their feet, take photos and enjoy interacting with nature.

Beaches of Cambodia

Cambodia is at the end of the Pacific, making it a premier destination for beach lovers looking to watch turtles swim and fish. Best of all, you'll be able to experience the country's pristine coral reefs on your own terms in just one or two days.

New destinations: Sihanoukville is known for its clear waters, having popular beaches such as Saracen Bay. This bay has an “Ibiza-inspired vibe” and is a perfect beach haven for friends on vacation. You can also visit the nearby Otres Beach which offers resorts, comfortable boutique hotels and family-run guesthouses just a short drive from downtown!

Koh Kong’s Sner Beach is an isolated beach that has attracted the best of Cambodia to it. With its relaxed seascape and hammocks, which provide a quiet escape among beautiful scenery, this beach is perfect for couples looking for some time alone or some me-time. Its fresh seafood makes it even more amazing!

Kep beach: It’s close to Vietnam and is a great blend of seclusion and life. This beach has plenty of cafés and shops, but it doesn’t experience overcrowding due to the presence of French architecture all over the place.

Learn about Aki Ra and his work at the Cambodia Landmine Museum

After the wars of Cambodia ended, Laos, Vietnam and America left millions of landmines in Siem Reap. The mines were set off every day, revealing their presence to people and causing long-term damage to the quality of life throughout Cambodia.

In 2007, Aki Ra closed the Cambodia Landmine Museum and established the Cambodian Self Help Demining group with the help of its CEO, Richard Fetoussi. In 2018, Aki Ra continued his work of sheltering victims from land mines and sending them to school with a team called Cambodian Self Help Demining.

Every member of the bomb disposal team, Aki Ra included, is responsible for clearing landmines. While walking around the Cambodian Landmine Museum and seeing their work, during the same time you will be educated on the necessity of demining across Cambodia. The free admission for Cambodian citizens and children is a cultural attraction for Siem Reap’s tourism as well.

National Museum

You can never go wrong with visiting the National Museum in Cambodia! The museum is beautifully designed and has a lovely, well-kept courtyard. This is also where you'll find both the leading archaeological attraction in Cambodia and its leading cultural museum.

The National Museum houses 14,000 items and the things on display range from stone works to sculptures and ceramics.

Artisans Angkor

Buy genuine souvenirs in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Artisans Angkor is right on the main strip along the iconic Royal Palace. They offer workshops for artists who create their handcrafted products in a traditional Cambodian way.

It is important to know that the items at the store are all made by Cambodians, who have passed down their artistic techniques and cultural traditions from generation to generation. All of the symbols, patterns and landscapes on the clothes, home decorations, textiles, and jewellery have traditionally been reflective of Cambodian culture.

The 8,000-square-foot store offers workshops in arts and crafts designed to give students an easy way to learn the trade. This allows them not only to be able to provide for their families but also support the Cambodian cultural traditions they cherish.

Apsara Dance

The Apsara dance is often performed on the walls of Hindu temples with costumes made of golden-coloured pieces, skin-tight tops, and different coloured skirts. The Apsara dance includes a whopping 1,400 hand gestures that have not changed much in the last 8 centuries!

Seafood

Fish amok (a speciality in Cambodia, steamed fish served with banana leaves) is a great dessert paired with coffee and rice; Kep is a good market to buy crab. Seafood is very popular in Cambodia due to its freshness, so you won’t worry about what the seafood might be carrying. They are totally clean!

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT CAMBODIA?

The best time of year to visit Cambodia is either the dry season from May to October or the wet season from November to April. The dry season is generally more pleasant, with less humidity and fewer crowds. The wet season, on the other hand, is when the country is at its most enchanting - full of lush rainforest, brightly coloured rice paddies, and lively markets.
